The North Carolina
Watermelon Festival parade has now become one of the event's highlights.
Recognized as the state's largest agricultural parade, the vast array of
entries range from floats, clowns, antique cars, agricultural equipment,
and musical units.
The 2004 parade will be held on Saturday, August
7 at
10:00 a.m. in downtown
Murfreesboro. The theme this
year is "A Summertime Tropical Party," and is sponsored by
Glover Construction Company of Pleasant Hill, NC.
Over 1000 red and green balloons will be distributed to parade
spectators.
"This year's parade will have fantastic music by
area high
school bands. Sudan units
from across the state will also be featured.
Clowns, floats, antique tractors, and dignitaries make this parade a treat
for the entire family," stated Lynette Bunch, Co-Chairperson of the
Festival.
Courtney Herring, the
2004 N.C. Watermelon Queen,
is the
star of the parade. A special
float is being constructed just for Ms.
Herring and it is the only time during her reign that she rides on a
float.
